How mud pump works
A mud pump is a machine that delivers a flushing fluid such as mud or water to the borehole during drilling. Mud pump is an important part of drilling machinery. Its main function is to inject mud into the well with the drill bit during the drilling process. It plays the role of cooling the drill bit, cleaning the drilling tool, fixing the well wall, driving the drilling, and bringing the cuttings back to the surface after drilling. In ordinary positive circulation drilling, the mud pump sends the surface flushing medium—water, mud or polymer flushing fluid directly to the bottom of the drill bit through a high-pressure hose, and taps and drills the center hole of the drill string under a certain pressure to cool the drill bit , to remove the cut ROC. k fragments and transport them to the ground. Ordinary mud pumps are piston type or plunger type. The crankshaft of the pump is turned by the power engine. The crankshaft drives the piston or plunger back and forth within the pump cylinder through the crosshead. Under the alternating action of the suction valve and the discharge valve, the purpose of pressurizing and circulating the flushing liquid is realized.
Mud Pump Performance
The two main parameters of mud pump performance are displacement and pressure. Displacement is calculated by emitting a few liters per minute. It is related to the borehole diameter and the required speed of the flushing fluid at the bottom of the hole. That is, the larger the diameter of the hole, the larger the displacement required. It is required that the upward and backward speed of the flushing fluid can flush the cuttings and cuttings on the drill bit from the bottom of the hole in time and reliably send them to the ground. When drilling geological cores, the up and down speed is generally around 0.4-1 m/min. The pressure of the pump depends on the drilling depth, the resistance of the flushing fluid passing through the channel and the properties of the flushing fluid. The deeper the hole is drilled, the greater the resistance of the pipe and the higher the pressure required. The displacement of the pump needs to be adjusted over time as the diameter and depth of the borehole change. The pump mechanism is equipped with a gearbox or hydraulic motor to adjust its speed for the purpose of changing the displacement. In order to accurately grasp the changes of the pressure and displacement of the pump, a flow meter and pressure gauge should be installed on the mud pump to inform the driller of the operation of the pump at any time. At the same time, the pressure change can be used to judge whether the situation in the hole is normal, so as to prevent the occurrence of accidents in the hole.
